SMUT - Clothing line

‘Stripping down to the T' ' Bold, provocative, offensive, daring, striking, tongue-in-cheek, filthy. These are but a few of the words that have been used to describe SMUT. Using t-shirts as a blank canvas and erotic fantasy as a palette, SMUT designs are sexually charged yet instantly wearable..’

Sascha, the founder of Smut, a bold and controversial clothing line, started with an idea and has since boomed into the fashion industry as a pioneer in today’s competition, with its captivating message and clever iconic logo. Inspired by art, design and erotic film, you can see where Sascha’s love for Smut developed. A dream that seeps into reality, it’s hard to catch him sometimes. But the undeniable amount of faith he had, to take his idea and make something, truly deserves a worldwide recognition. Attracting DJ’s, bands, designers and people in the creative industry all wanting Smut, and a launch party held in New York City .. listen to Sascha when he says ‘If you have an idea, and you know it’s good, do something with it, go for it!’.. it makes sense and he’s most probably right. |

How would you describe your journey up until this point? Exciting!!! Always learning and meeting new and interesting people. Keep going I say, because you’ll never know who you’ll meet or where you'll end up. That’s what makes it exciting. What struggles have you been through to get to where you are now? There’s been the financial difficultly side of things, finding suppliers.. it was never going to be easy in the first place, but 2 years down the line, I'm starting to see results. It’s very hard in this day in age to break into the design industry, unless you have a really good design going for you that stands out from the rest. Once you have that idea, just keep on developing it. How do you get noticed and how do you know what they are looking for? Apply to as many design magazines as you can and ask for write ups, even design blogs. Thanks to MySpace its added another dimension. What they are looking for, has to be a really good design. Already I've been told the SMUT logo is iconic. That’s a big compliment. Most memorable moment? When I first wore the tee, people kept staring at it. Their facial expressions made me laugh. Some were smiles, others disgust, a couple of winks, it was a mixed reaction. What challenges are worth fighting for? The belief in your own idea and taking it further and further. No guts, no glory. Got to have the passion in what you do and don’t be scared to take risks. |

Future plans? I’ve got an up-coming launch party in NYC this November 17th, think we have all the important people in fashion coming down. I'm hoping big results will come from this and the right people will turn up, like buyers? I would so love to sell my stuff in the states. Most of my orders come from the states. I think its calling me. They love the SMUT! Will be releasing my gay collection soon and ‘Smutsista’ www.myspace.com/smutsista will be working alongside NAT ( National Aid Trust ) with each t-shirt that is bought, £1 will go towards the charity. |
